Saffron is widely known as the world’s most expensive spice, but what led us to naming our company Saffron Fine Foods is the care that goes into harvesting the spice. Saffron is the stamen of the crocus flower, harvested by hand with only 3 to 5 stamens per flower. The stamens are then dried and packaged, and sent to the spice shelves of restaurants and kitchens all over the world.
Saffron Fine Foods founder Miki Loomis brings years of experience in events and hospitality – plus a special love for weddings – to everything we do. Saffron came to be when she decided that instead of finding the “right person” to work for, it was time to work for herself! Miki is joined by event pro Terri Terrell, who was Saffron’s executive chef and now serves as catering director.
We believe that every gathering of people where food is shared should be considered a celebration. The act of breaking bread historically signifies the setting aside of individual differences and embracing the common need to satisfy hunger. It is our goal to provide food for such occasions – meals that not only nourish the body, but also entertain the senses and warm your soul!
With this in mind, we craft thoughtful, delicious and deeply local menus to turn any occasion into a special feast. And thanks to our expert logistical, staffing and culinary planning support, you can kick back and enjoy the festivities!
Need a few more reasons to choose Saffron Fine Foods? Another thing that makes us unique is our “greening” expertise. Saffron offers on-site waste disposal, including composting and recycling, for every event we cater. We also use local products
, support other local small businesses
and contribute to local non-profit organizations like ASAP (Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project)
Asheville Humane Alliance
and Brother Wolf Animal Rescue
We believe being a part of our community is part of being a responsible business, plus it’s just more fun!
